Mr. Japheth Katto

Mr. Japheth Katto, FCCA, is the managing partner of Japheth Katto Consult, a corporate governance consultancy firm that offers board selection, board training & development and board evaluation services, among others.

 

He is the Board Chairman of Stanbic Bank Uganda Ltd and a board member of East African Breweries Limited (EABL) where he chairs the corporate governance committee and sits on the audit and risk committee. Mr. Katto also chairs the board of Uganda Breweries Ltd, a subsidiary of EABL which is in turn a subsidiary of Diageo plc.

 

He has served on the board of Junior Achievement Uganda and was Chairman of the Duke of Edinburgh International Award Uganda.

 

He is an adjunct faculty of Strathmore University Business School.

 

Mr. Katto was the first CEO of Uganda’s Capital Markets Authority, a position he held for 16 years until end of 2013. Prior to this, he held for over 20 years several senior positions in accounting, auditing, insolvency, companies’ investigation and financial services regulation in East Africa and the UK.

 

Mr. Katto has played key leadership roles in the global accountancy profession. He was a Board member of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) for 6 years until November 2013, a member of the IFAC Nominating Committee for four years until November 2014 and a member of the Global Council of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) for six years until November 2018. He has also spoken at various national, regional and international conferences and seminars over the years.

 

In the area of corporate governance, Mr. Katto is a Commonwealth Association for Corporate Governance certified trainer and a strong advocate of good corporate governance. He is one of the contributors to and editors of a book on corporate governance in Uganda.

 

Mr. Katto is a B. Com graduate of Makerere University in Uganda, a Fellow of ACCA and a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda.
